Settle Carlisle Railway 2 Days 11 – 12 July 2021

The Settle-Carlisle railway line is one of the most famous in England. Half a million passengers ride on it every year, the majority of them for the sheer pleasure of journeying through some of the North’s most magnificent scenery from the comfort of the train. We also take in Skipton and more beautiful scenery through the Lake District.

YOUR HOTEL The Crown & Mitre Hotel stands in the centre of Carlisle and offers the perfect mix of Edwardian grandeur, beautiful original features including an elegant sweeping staircase plus all the modern comforts of home to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Hotel facilities include swimming pool and Jacuzzi. All bedrooms are en suite and have television with Freeview, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift. Tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival.

SUNDAY We travel to Yorkshire and the market town of Skipton, often called the gateway to the Dales with its many shops, cobbled streets and alleyways, plus one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England. We then join our diesel train for our breath-taking journey on England’s most scenic railway line – the Settle to Carlisle, one of the last great railways to be built in the country and completed in 1876. Free time before dinner in the hotel.

MONDAY Our return journey home this morning gets under way with more beautiful scenery as we travel to the wonderful Lake District. Travelling via Keswick and Grasmere to Bowness on Lake Windermere, where we have time to have lunch, perhaps take a boat trip or just enjoy your surroundings before continuing our journey home, arriving in the early evening.
