Hidden Gems of France, Spain & Portugal

An unforgettable experience combining cruising in style with visits to three wonderful countries.

13 Days: 14th to 25th September 2024

Uncover remote wonders as we take you from Portugal to France. When in Porto, sample the magnificent port wine that has made the city world-famous. There’s plenty more to savour when you take an optional trip to the charming seaside spot of Spain’s Bilbao, which is home to some of the best art museums. Le Verdon is a gateway to Bordeaux, where fine wines and Gothic cathedrals await. Experience the coastal beauty of La Rochelle and Honfleur to finish off your unforgettable trip.

YOUR SHIP: Ambience the flagship of the fleet.  Discover a wide range of comfortable lounges and stylish leisure facilities to enrich your time on board.  Dining options are plentiful at the Buckingham restaurant or the Borough Market, with plentiful cuisine options.  Put your best cards forward at Aces & Eights bridge and card room and the Ambassador Casino or revive and renew at the gym and Wellness Centre.  Other facilities include Kapoor’s, an onboard crafting studio, Brontë’s library, the shopping galleria, not to mention two swimming pools, four hot tubs and a large screen for outdoor movies. Sound good?

SATURDAY:  Depart kettlewell’s yard for our journey to Tilbury.

SUNDAY & MONDAY:  At sea cruising make the most of what the ship has to offer from the pools, hot tubs, outdoor cinema.  Work off some of those extra calories in the gym and wellness centre.   Try the casino or the crafting studio.  Alternatively relax with a good book as you sail to your first destination.

TUESDAY:  LEIXOS, for OPORTO (PORTUGAL)
Mix monuments by leading world architects from the past and the present, and some fantastic baroque carvings.  Add a world-famous sweet wine and a certain British flavor. Place it all by a grand river, and you have “O Porto,” “the port,” Porto – Portugal’s second largest metropolis, and one of Europe’s most charismatic cities.

WEDNESDAY:  LISBON
Lisbon is the stunning capital city of Portugal.  And is one of the most charismatic and vibrant cities in Europe.  It is a city that effortlessly blend traditional heritage, with striking modernism and progressive thinking.

THURSDAY:  Cruising

FRIDAY:  GIJON, SPAIN
Gijón is a coastal city that has repurposed its industrial past.  The bustling port is still there but so, too, are the lively cider bars and superb seafood, while its 5,000 years of history can be seen through the impeccably preserved Roman ruins, Baroque architecture and modern sculpture scattered through streets and parks.

SATURDAY:  GETXO, for BILBAO
Bilbao, in the northern Basque region of Spain, is home to golden beaches, delicious pintxosthe local version of tapas – and the Guggenheim museum.  Bilbao is surrounded by the Basque Mountains and sits on an estuary that leads to the Atlantic Ocean

SUNDAY:  LE VERDON, for BOURDEAUX (FRANCE)
When you visit Bourdeaux, its watery arteries serve as your guide. The lavish buildings that are a legacy of the 18th century former port spread along the banks of the Garonne and its UNESCO classified quays, around the imposing Place de la Bourse and to the rim of the famous water sculpture the Miroir d’eau (mirror of water).

MONDAY:  LA PALLICE, for LA ROCHELLE
La Rochelle, the prefecture of Charente-Maritime, has made the most of its many attractions to charm visitors.  The Vieux-Port quarter, the city’s most emblematic district, has inspired many painters and photographers.  Its three towers, listed as Historic Monuments since 1879, are remains of the medieval fortifications.

TUESDAY: Cruising

WEDNESDAY:  HONFLEUR
Ports don’t come any prettier than Honfleur on the Seine estuary. Colourful half-timbered houses jostle for position on the quays, along with art galleries and restaurants. Packed with things to see and do, it’s not for nothing that Honfleur is one of the most popular places to visit in France.
